You can select almost any object like a rock, tree, etc. for a house. There are some restrictions on maps, but for the most part if it isn't used yet it can be.

The offline game hasn't been updated in years and I don't really see it getting updated in the future.

It isn't perfect, but it helps quests and maps get released faster.
