I love this idea
We have a lot of great ideas, like the keychain, like the additional slots
Anything that makes me collect these unique and possibly usable items together is fine by me

Oh, maybe we can add a "belt"! It can have a keyring spot and a temporary item "buckle". When the buckle is used up, your pants fall down! xD In all seriousness, the belt could allow a keyring and a spot for the "orb" idea ...

That is all well and good to keep the keyring in your house but many players dont have a house or only a couple of their characters do, so why not allow it to be put in Bank instead? Bank, tavern or house. Each of these are fine! I did it again, ...

... good points. Option 2 reflects real life. If you lose your keys you need to have them recut (in FT it's by a GM!). How about, once you get the One KeyRing Quest it stays in your house - 1 slot. Find a new key ingame, use it take it home, it goes on the One KeyRing, and now that door stays open ...
