Same happened to me. But once talk with mercenary again and the quest will be fixed.

Maybe One Key Box to keep all keys and rope and candle and all the maps etc.. items.
Or an alternative idea that door once opened remains unlocked for ever.
We really need some solution to this multiple keys problems..

The ? symbol won't appear if u have no gold. So u can't spawn. He will only talk if u have gold and take away ur gold.
