We live in a time where the intelligent thing to do is to remain silent, so as not to offend people we consider our friends.

I remember a time when voicing an opinion to a friend was never taken as an insult or offence. And often created some interesting conversations.

I would say so long as one keeps in mind that voicing an opinion to someone is different from forcing an opinion on them healthy discussions can ensue and differences can be respected. I certainly don't have all of the same opinions as friends or family. Nobody does. No reason that people can't disagree though.
