For those that want to get organized as opposed to being surprised with gathering/searching for the random item of the day, this list is for you. To pray to the Gods of Light as the "2K Altar" (in the church in the area behind the Ice Caves), the NPC asks you too help the church first. Each day, he will ask for a different item. If you don't bring it by FT day rollover, the following day, a new item will be requested. After bringing the item to help them, you are then required to donate 70m gold at the Altar (no quest mark will show on the altar, but it will work). You may then "pray" to the Gods of Light, and IF they happen to be listening (reasonable, but not high chance), you will be gifted with a level 2000 item. I think only mages can get mage items. Everyone else can get items of their level. I don't think it bestows the 2k amulet or weapons, but all other gear for your class is available.
Below is the list of items the church may "need help with". The items are always randomized, so you never know what you may get. Hopefully, this helps some people out, or helps motivate them to get some gear. Enjoy!

I'm not disagreeing ....yet that is....and whether or not anyone would actually surrender an ancient weapon piece for an altar chance is extremely doubtful...but since this is an older game feature I should believe an older quest file that lists all the items possible as an NPC dialogue. I don't recall the guy asking for a weapon piece as an option...but I will check that file. It's not that this is life shattering but the purpose of this thread is to be an accurate guide and I do dislike confusion. If any one else has perhaps a new altar quest dialogue file that may have been redone to include the weapon piece item would they please provide conclusive proof so we can move on in confidence.

I wonder if it is a translation issue. It definitely asks for ancient armor but I really doubt ancient weapon.
I do have all of the quest files that comp sent me after the Phiso/Nelmi maps open so I can always look at that later, but I know others who have posted here have access to the quest info as well.

I looked through the quest file that compbatant himself sent to me before. There is no ancient weapon piece requested. The only "ancient ___" is the ancient armor line. Below is how it is in the quest file.
chat_npc I have a task for you. Bring me a Piece of Ancient Armor.

the altar NEVER wants an ANCIEN_PIECE_OF WEAPON.
the altar wants an ANCIENT_PIECE_OF_ARMOR.
