I have been informed that the house on the start map (the forester's shed) is not available as a private house.

Houses are only available for existing permanent features on a map. They can be rocks, trees, buildings with no function (no shops, active castles etc), even mine carts and graves.

One question, how many days would it take for the house to be available for purchase?

It depends upon how quickly the game creator (Compbatant) reads your request. I'd keep checking this thread a few times a day.

Bear in mind that when a property does go up for sale, it is available to ALL players and not just the one who requested it. You need to be quick to purchase it as it is a first come first served system. I say this as you happen to have requested a house on the busiest screen of the entire game - in other words, many players will notice it.
