Devil's island ring quest

I recently started the quest where the npc asks me to find his stolen ring from the castle on Devil's island and I found the ring but I cannot pick it up. Here is two screenshots. One is of the ring. The other is of the quest in my logbook.

Did you talk to both the human and devil in the castle? Both want the ring, so you need to talk with both first, then can pick up the ring and decide which one to give it to.

I don't know if there is much difference as far as rewards go, but some minor differences about where to look for things afterwards.
