Reverse engineering mage stats

Post by saab »

It is not technically a bug, but maybe a vulnerability that can potentially be exploited:

If a mage casts a single armour spell and you are within range, you can see how much your ARM increased. From this information you can calculate the base MAN of the mage (with 10 point uncertainty due to rounding). Checking their gear, you also know full MAN. Knowing the level and MAN (and gear), you can also calculate base ARM and thus HP, assuming that no points were put into DEX and STR, as the overwhelming majority of mages do.

It's probably not a serious issue, but I suggest a simple solution: randomize the effect of ARM spell between like 0.75 and 1.25. This would bring much more uncertainty in the calculations, and unless someone put a big effort into sampling and statistical calculations, the vulnerability won't work anymore.
