Scammer Punishments

I was just brainstorming with a friend, and a weird idea popped in my head.
In game "scamming" is getting out of hand; couldn't there be a better and more fun/creative way to punish them?
What if...
  • They were given the Santa Claus skin
  • Their name was displayed as Santa Claus
  • Their ability to use the /filter command was disabled
  • Their ability to trade was disabled
  • This punishment was applied to ALL their accounts
  • This punishment would last for some time... several days at least, maybe a month
  • Their chat would automatically be replaced by random Santa sayings like
    • HO HO HO
    • Merry Christmas
    • Who wants a gift?
    • Who deserves a gift?
    • Who has been good?
    • etc... just stuff to encourage begging
Anyway, maybe not the best or most ideal punishment, but, it would be a lot of fun to watch

It might effect characters name adding a "Santa" prefix, so they would all look alike, still being recognisable.

And it might have that same functioning of the mute, lasting a day at its first occurence and increasing since then
:D

Oh, adding a "blue name effect" as well....
of course, no GM powers of any kind;
but, they can't impersonate a GM, as their chat is essentially disabled as well

Yes, in many ways, this is so evil.... but still, I think it would deter a lot of scamming

Excellent idea! Wish this would be implemented! Very original and it is not unreasonable. I vote yes. 8-)

Good idea. I would change the no trading part. The new Santa should be given extra pets or backpacks so that they can carry all of their items from the bank/tavern/house. Any player requesting a present would be given one. The Santa would be forced into a trade where he must give one item away, but receive no gold. Since he has no gold, he cannot buy cheap stuff from the shop. Once all of his items are gone, the punishment would be over.

Or maybe GMs could just log into his accounts, remove all items from storage, and start passing them out (free of course).

I agree with DaHobbit. GM's should do it for the player, as what is to say that the player wont just log off? And as they are still able to walk around, they can likely still kill and be killed - and grind.
Edit: After reading dahobbits post more thoroughly I notice he said "The punishment wont be over until all gear is gone". Here are some issue(s) with the player doing it himself:
1: He may only sell it to his alts using a second device

LoL :D Very funny - and creative

My time away has served to make me less forgiving of abusive players, so my idea would be to simply identify the player with a red (A) in front of the name (for Abuser) and remove all items, gold, and friends from list... then make the Abuser status similar to outlaw, where he can always be attacked by everybody...

oh yeah, and mute too...

first offense = 1 week Abuser, never getting items or gold back... second offense = permanent on all accounts, including shared ones

Is this one week in real life or one week of actual gameplay time? This makes a big difference to the punishment.

I keep appreciating MadMikael's idea of abusers being bluenamed during the punishment, thus they might be continuosly messaged with requests.
But Blitzcraigs's mention of the red A made me think of this other possibility: the introduction of red-naming for abusers. Less funny than the blue name one, but on the other hand more immediatly recognisable and with no risks of blue names being associated with rules violation.
