In order to curb possibly even stop scams, i suggest switching from free trading to a marketplace.
By marketplace i mean :
1 have a building on spawn(tavern perhaps?) With two windows
2 at window one you can place/remove items you wish to sell( also
you can collect gold from sales at this window)
3. At window 2 you can search( however code is written) by either
the type of item, or the level this should also have an extras area
for mana,hp pots
4 give every player an initial 5 slots for selling. Make extra slots(in
groups of 5) purchasable (like backpack) with a limit not to
exceed 50 total( with a limit of only 5 of any one item at a time
being able to be sold)
5 players come to market, search and buy the item they want(at the
lowest price they find) sellers can come at anytime and collect
gold and/or items and add more items as needed
6 also with this system you can allow people, on friend list only, to
gift either 1 item or gold(could even set an amount limit ?1b?)


This would basically stop scamms as you would not be able to trade with others. You could only gift to people on friend list all other types of trades will be done through the market, so there would be no person to person contact during selling/buying process.

What do you all think ?

Excellent idea.my only addition is to have the marketplace at more than one venue for ease of access, possibly?

wherever the market building is located, it should be surrounded by fence. within the fence, regardless if a player is at the market building or not, no PvP is allowed. this way, players won't fear getting attacked if they're beyond the normal building PvP protection ring

Agreed. 0,0 obvious place but then it will get VERY busy.

Plus, I still believe the current system is very good (except for maximum number of items trading needs increasing) between friends and alts.

Im sure that instead of gifts, trades could be allowed with ppl on FL. Meaning if you friend someone just to trade and get SCAMMED, its on you..no complaining or crying.. it would be because of your own chosing..

How about:
-= only if friend is online =-
LostKnight sees L3on3 online
  1. LostKnight opens friend list
  2. clicks on friend: L3on3
  3. new option: offer items for Xgold (0 is default) 5 spaces:
    1. 5 different items
    2. up to 20 of the same item
    3. a combo of items not to exceed 20 items, ie:
      1. Space 1 = 10 bee stings - 0 gold
      2. Space 2 = 5 axes(100) - 5k gold
      3. Space 3 = 3 bows(250) - 1m gold
      4. Space 4 = 2 wands(200) - 1m (all = 20 items)
Gold will be a TOTAL for the items in that Space.
ie: 2 wands(200) - 1m = 2 wands(200) - 500m each

Friend can choose what he wants reject the rest.
If he selects something with a gold value - it is automatically transferred, if he does not have the required amount of gold the transfer of items and gold is rejected by the system.

Agreed, thats fine as a trade between friends would rarely be that complicated but it would be good to have the option to do so.

I'm all for a Marketplace-like idea, but there are lots of potential problems with this idea as-is that are too many to list them all without creating a giant wall of text nobody wants to take the time to read.

I typed 'em all out and even got bored myself after just a few of 'em.

To make it simple, adding a "Market" feature ALONGSIDE the current trading system (not replacing it) is what I would support, although personally I'd still rarely use it as 99% of items I shop-sell anyway and this wouldn't change that.

Although to be real, little monetary gain (selling slots easily bypassed by making alts for free additional slots) combined with the workload required I highly doubt it will happen anyways.
