I like the general concept and think it would be a good addition.
One potential issue though could be some confusion in the responses if friends do not have a shared group of friends. For example:
Player A is friends with B, C, D, and E
Player B is friends with A, C, F, and G
Player C is friends with A, B, H, and I
Players A, B, and C could chat together nicely. Players D, E, F, G, H, and I would be getting confusing messages.
That being said, I can think of plenty of situations where I may want to send a /f to all of my friends who are in game. Maybe they send a private message or /w back to me. Maybe they have a good reason to send a reply to all of their friends too.
Depending on circumstances this might not be used for an ongoing conversation, but it would be nice to have.
OOPS! And that probably why it's not implemented.
However:
A: /f Anyone want to help me get X
D: normal message: I will be free in 5
C: normal message: can't in a war fighting mossies ATM RAID helps
A: /f OK folks D is coming to my aid
E: normal message: I was going to say yes too, call if you need more help.
B: offline
Maybe make a "non-clan"

FM01 = FriendMember Group: 01
Only the FL can invite/kick members

A person can only belong to one FL Group - just like a clan
