New pet command

Hello,
I have a new idea on a way for players to enjoy the pet system a little more openly and a way for them to not be so afraid to lose the pet when adventuring. I was thinking about a new icon over the pet commands indicating passive or aggressive. This would allow a player to put their pets into passive for travels. Pets would not attack or help a player in any way just simply travel with them. No enemies could see them as targets for they don't attack, tank, or grind in passive.

I don't use this feature already in the game, so someone else can confirm, but I think if you use the direction pad instead of tap to move, your pets will follow you and not attack on the way. I remember using this in the past with ranged pets that were always lagging behind trying to kill something but with pad stayed behind me instead and walked as I walked.

Of course that didn't make them passive as you suggest because as soon as you stopped they were ready to fight, so for that reason I like the idea suggested. However I don't think it would be feasible to make the pets immune from attack as I think you as the player would also have to be immune from attack for that to work. That would be a major reworking I would think to make all monsters ignore passive pets. But perhaps the other way would work passive/aggressive with you as the player still responsible where you bring your pets. Otherwise you could simply make a big spawn and if it gets too hot to handle put passive on your pets and walk right through it! :o I do agree though it would at times be nice to not have your pets attack as you travel and especially in tough areas where stopping to engage the enemy could put the pets in real risk of dying.

I think sieges work this way with respect to passive and mobs already. They don't attack or get attacked by mobs.

I like it, but it seems it might be too easy to manipulate mobs using this. Let them tank until almost dead, then switch to passive to save them at the last second. That sort of thing.

Learning to use all the features of pets has a lot of benefits. Tap to walk vs joystick control, whipping and moving, etc. We can already do quite a lot with what we have.

One more addition isn't necessarily a bad thing despite all that. Interesting idea.

It sounds nice but I think it would be abused. Too easy to switch modes when pets have low hp, when you want to turn them into barriers, or just have zero risk additional storage for tough areas. Then people would complain any time they lost a pet and that it "didn't switch" or "didn't switch fast enough" or something else. People already complain because they do dumb stuff and lose their pets *cough*halflingsondevilisland*cough* and that extra command would make things pretty insufferable.

One could always enable both tap to move and the joystick and just use as needed to keep pets close or... whatever pets do when you tap!

As pointed out, the possibility of having invulnerable pets whenever you deem convenient would be abused. My pets are at red health? OK- let's put them into passive mode whilst they regenerate.

Gull - you are absolutely correct in your first paragraph. Use the dpad to move around and pets will follow and ignore monsters.

Pets are fine the way they are. There is a Pet Companion now is you want to keep your pets safe.

From the comments above there are way to many possibilities to abuse the system with this proposal.

Use a D-Pad and tap-to-move and your have it all covered.

The absolute BEST way to control pets is with the D-Pad.
Now if only Tap-to-Move moved you and the pets followed.
- - T2M has it backwards..

Tap to move with pets going first has benefits too. If the pets are in front of me, they'll keep going. The mobs chasing us will hit me, not them. That can be a benefit.

I just enable both methods of moving. There are times I don't really care what in the world my pets do and times that I do. Tapping to move is also nice when you have a fast walking speed and don't want to bother steering around obstacles, and by that point you're already well ahead of your pets anyhow so tapping is more moving you and not them.

It doesn't make much sense to me to change the way pets are. Rather insert a lock / unlock button for pets, this would be useful in many cases.

If you use the D-Pad the pets will follow you, not attach and in 99.9% of the game we 'walk' faster than any mobs.

Now that Ball is a different story.
