I'm not sure about using the ashdown mine. It is part of the tutorial which is hard enough already when attempting to speak with Darling the dwarf.
I also disagree with dropping mithril or platinum there. It would render the corresponding mine spots as pointless.

I also proposed alternatives to those attacks a long time ago.
Everything has remained on stand-by.
I like these proposals, I like the 'alternatives' and I like creating more and more game.
However, I agree with L3on3. Drop too high, exaggerated.
I think you need to revise your idea a bit, but I like it for the most part.

Remove the ores dropped and it would be an interesting addition. Though if the drops are minimal getting enough to make an ingot over the course of a longer quest sure won't replace mining.
