Knights- No medieval themed game would be complete without them. Some suppose anyone who carries a sword is therefore a knight of the realm. Alas no. Knights may be good or they may be bad but unlike a simple swordsman they operate according to a code. Part of game play in FT is to determine what governs how you play the game. This applies to any class so in that sense all strive for a kind of knighthood. Of course the game has a variety of knight baddies! The black knights are notorious faithfully attacking Martek stronghold daily. The black knight castle and dungeon system is impressive and filled with danger for the non black knight! The 4 outer rebel houses are filled with knights doggedly determined to protect them. There are a few quests with knights or would be knights who require your aid. Some sadly needing equipment they somehow misplaced, a true shame for any knight! Some players have chosen to be noble knights trying to stand up and speak up for what is good for the game and for its players. One such knight now lost still has an influence that is felt throughout FT. What will you be known for oh you that desire the title of knight?

Keys- They are the key to many FT adventures! :D If you gathered and kept every key available in the game you would need to buy a house to store them all! :o
Let’s consider what they allow you to do:

-mages need a key to acquire a slow spell (as if they don’t move slow enough already!)
-a key must be wrestled out of the hand of a mummy to do a pyramid quest (always respect your mummy)
-keys are needed for some dungeons (yes the gloom isn’t enough or the monsters!)
-there is a cemetery key (most likely a skeleton key!)
-keys for offices and storage areas (some infested with worms I’ve heard)
-two caves each requiring the killing of numerous enemies to get dozens of keys for doors and chests. (Oh goody lots of stuff!)
-a mighty battle for a key to precious material resources (not for the faint of heart)
-another kind of key and perhaps the most useful is the counsel of friends or the use of this forum. Like a map has a key to understanding its notations so these help provide understanding to this game and enjoying the adventures it provides.

Luck- What does that have to do with anything? I am sure the math wizards among us can give a percentage of chance of an event occurring considering the elements involved. But trust me on this you may not have the time to test something a 1000 times to verify the stats! Here are some non-scientific observations and I encourage others to contribute where luck has given them something unexpected in this game. I have noticed if the tree by my house yields a magic trunk it is a good day to harvest lots of magic trunks. I have noticed if I want soul stones the carbon yields more. If I want meteor stones the iron or hitting my rock house. I get more items fishing during the day than at night. I have fished more rare items than I ever could by waiting for drops from monsters this has included fire plates and 200 wands! In crafting luck is either there or not. One time I may get 4 items out of 5 tries and other times 1 out of 5. If I am lucky the first craft session I should craft more because it will be a good day to craft. Now this may be a bunch of mumbo jumbo and for others their luck runs in different ways than I have mentioned or they rebuff the whole concept of luck at all. It is fun to think that in a game of grinding and mining and laboring there is good fortune awaiting you at the next turn. :D

Leveling- The goal of this game is to level. Levels allow you to do more leveling. When you level and reach a goal there are more goals requiring more levels. All along the way this game provides quests and monsters to fight that help you level. At a certain point of near godhood in experience levels the goals are harder to find so you must make up your own goals to reach. Before I am accused of being pessimistic and making FT a tedious bore of endless reaching but never arriving let me revise my first sentence. The goal of the game is to enjoy the journey while you level. Indeed that makes the leveling worth the effort whether it is the time spent with friends or quests achieved or monsters brought under your dominion all these contribute a pleasant trip while leveling. The gaining of new gear by leveling is one device the game uses to make you feel rewarded for all the time spent gaining experience. The early levels reward you often but as time goes on the rewards are less frequent but also are more valuable.

Martek- The hub of the FT world! Up to a certain level this is a great spot to buy gear and sell monster drops. Unlike the gouging Silverwood shops Martek will give you a fair price and it has the 1000 HP health potion vital to early survival! Like Ashdown Village its renown is jealously attacked daily not by pirates but by a hoard of black knights and their siege weapons. Martek also is home to the coliseum alas rarely used these days. Nearby is a portal one of the few available on the big map for all to use, and just to the map west is the blacksmith and his shop. A few quests are located here also so check at level 15, and again at level 30 after having talked with the commander at the king’s residence, at 50 to escort 3 rather snobbish FT kings, and at 300 for a mission that will open up a castle for you to explore!

Mining- As someone once said “mine your own business!” indeed! Unless you want to buy everything in the game from others, developing your mining skills is a great but time consuming part of FT play. With new map additions the mining options have grown with some ores having restricted access reachable at certain levels only. You may mine gold (sorry for crafting only and quests), iron, carbon, mithril, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, platinum, and adamantium. In any mining session you may also get soul stones or meteors stones as part of your raw ore gathered. Some elements have an excellent ore which is used for enhancing gear. These include excellent mithril, platinum and adamatium. There is even one spot where you can use your pick to gather petrified wood, excellent wood, and petrified leaves! At the time of this writing we don't know what these petrified items will be used for. Out of this raw ore then crafting commences. Ores can be fashioned into ingots with some requiring 2, 3, 5, or 10 ore to make. Some are combined to make something else. Carbon and iron make steel for instance and meteor ingots and soul ingots can be fashioned. These mined resources are the building blocks for lots of crafting and also are part of quest requirements. Don’t despair! Mining skills improve the more you mine so you will get faster at it.

Mithril- One of the precious ores available by mining. It is valuable for crafting the very useful +3 picks, axes, hammers, and fishing rods. It also can be used to craft armor and weapons and as a requested item in several quests. The source of mithril is guarded by some senseless beasts! If you don’t mind a long walk under Silverwood (if level 75) mithril can be found but you may have to dispatch some level 100 red monsters/cyclops. Inside what many call the “west cave” is another mithril outcrop guarded by the dangerous and power packed brutes called ogre halflings.(level 150 to enter) In Hobbs mine you have two spots but must sidestep a variety of worms.(also level 150 minimum) Same for the stairway down on the five houses map an outcrop is found near one of its portals but guarded by level 410 worms! No level needed for this but zowie need a pretty good level to survive the worms. No one said it would be easy! :o

No One- A rare but interesting occurrence that occasionally you enter a map or dungeon area and you are the only one there! You would think with all the time zones and countries represented someone would be in your area. That perhaps is one of the unwritten features of the FT world. If you want to be social you can fill your friend list to capacity and most likely find someone you know playing when you do. If that isn’t enough you can join a clan and increase your likelihood of finding others you know. Still the game is small enough that if you really want solitude you can find a nook or cranny of FT that you can at least for a short time call your own. But don’t get too comfortable or possessive of your spot because well…er…that is to say any spot in FT is just as much anyone’s spot as yours! Which leads into our next word very nicely!

Nonsense- You will hear on and off throughout FT a variety of complaints about players playing style, about opposing players or groups, about game mechanics, about various classes plus and minus and why this class is better or hated or such like one upmanship, and maybe even complaints about how the youngsters invaded the game or the old coots who need to move on and get a life. You may experience this word in deed too as you play, you scratch your head and wonder what universe this player has come from, or you wonder how a player can be in your mind so evil. You may wonder why and what and who about many things usually without any reasonable answer. It may seem the winds of fortune never blow your way but only the vexing and incomprehensible. (nice 16 letter word) Welcome to nonsense! A malady humanity is afflicted with and is only heightened in pixel form playing online games. Calm souls begin to scream, thoughtful people let the moment make them think only of themselves, and hardened and selfish souls find surprise in the satisfaction when charity randomly grabs their actions. Welcome to nonsense! It is often hard to figure out, sometimes funny to observe, and sometimes a cautionary tale to tuck away in our memory so we are wiser the next time. If you want chaos free rational game play try Scrabble cause nonsense is here to stay in FT because we are here! :D
