Melee are at a disadvantage. We should give them health regeneration while moving and in combat. Mages get mana regen at all times so why shouldn't melee get something? It won't solve the imbalance, but it will help.
Or, melee could get a stamina bar for sprinting like in Diablo.
We shouldn't try nerfing mages; we should improve everyone else. We want to make the game better not worse.

I agree with most of what you say here..
Except about nerfing mages. The formula does not work IMO. Run the numbers for characters 500+. Around 300 or 400, mages get a spectacular advantage... this is due to unbalanced formulae.
I suppose you could introduce a similar formula for other classes, but IMO that wouldn't really make things better... it would make it more difficult to take on one high levelled player. This would make clan wars more dependent on one player rather than teamwork.
