Self mute toggle

Post by MadMikael »

Not all muted players are muted for bad language abuse.
Many come and ask to be muted intentionally - and for some time now, GMs are willing to give them.
But we still say the same - it will not be undone, it goes against your mute counter.

I actually have respect for these players who ask for mutes.
Some just want privacy; but others, want to use language and consider ideas like "there are kids that play this game".
For this type of player, I see no reason why they should have to work so hard when they're responsible about things.
Trading for them can be quite difficult, for example.

similar to the chat /filter command, why not a command or option that toggles your chat output?
When turned on, it would be like you're muted, and only friends, clanmates and GM can hear you.
When you need to talk, you can turn it off. (keep in mind, no matter what mode you're in, rules can still come into play).
I suggest, making this mode visibly noticeable to the affected player too (as well as the /filter command, as many get confused when it's on).
How to implement that - well, perhaps a chat colour; but that may be annoying.
Perhaps a little symbol in the chat area to signify what chat mode you're in.
Also, a similar symbol to the mute symbol could be used to signify mute filter and chat filter as well.... let others know that you can't talk or hear them maybe.

There are many out there that have earned their mutes; but to the responsible, voluntary ones, I see this as a good idea.
And I like responsible players.

EDIT: I should point out - this idea would have NO effect on mute counters. Permanently muted players will stay permanently muted. This would only be usable by non-muted players.

How about two mute symbols to designate Self Mute?

I like that idea, also the mute symbol being visible to the player.
In an ideal world, I'd like the mute counter and remaining duration to be visible to the player (and to GMs)

I'm sure many could agree here as well.
If the player is willing to be responsible about it - i.e. non public cussing, then why not?

I love this idea. Self-responsible muting? Definitely a good idea.
/filter self (to activate)
/filter global (to undo [like all "/filter" commands])
And like all mutes, GMs will still see chat.

Gets my vote. Double m has a good method as well so the request doesn't need to involve/waste time of GMs

/filter command is a great idea and I think can be even more simplified by adding a clickable box at the login screen. If a player is muted, it should show a picture of a speaker with a line through it beside their name.

+1 on this idea
