I definitely believe they should be repairable if that change is implemented. Then this would become a stepping stone for weapons and armor to have durability and need repaired also. Can't believe I'm even talking about this.

yes, the old standard of durability would be awesome - as example: sword starts out at 100/100... it eventually wears down toward 0/100 (At which point it breaks and is garbage) ... before that happens, you get it repaired... the blacksmith will repair for gold, and very minimal reduction of overall durability (maybe from 10/100 to 99/99) ... or you can repair it yourself, basically for free, but depending on your repair skill level, overall durability will be reduced more than if the Smith had done it (maybe 10/100 to 90/90) ... i know, not original, but tried and true... and perfect for the style of FT (and yes, I also know we're dreaming here lol)

The worry is that this leads to weapon/arm degrading. I'm taking a leap but if one is introduced then it sets the precedent.

I'm not in favour of the weapon/armour degrading system.
I've never really cared for these systems much myself.
Sure, they're "realistic", but FT is a world of magic, dragons, demons, time travel etc.
Realism is not required.
Sure, maybe apply it to tools, but no weapons or armour, please.

Agreed. I play this game to get away from reality.

I know... I'm in the teeny, tiny majority of old-school players who enjoys a difficult game :p

I used to play Diablo, Diablo 2, and still occasionally play diablo 3. In these games repairing equipment is something that players have to do. It was hardly noticeable in those games though the way it was set up. Seemed one could adventure forever before having to teleport back to town to have the blacksmith repair gear. I know that there are times that whenever I go to grind somewhere, that there are certain players who park their character there and always log in that spot. They even act like they own that spot sometimes. If I happen to be grinding there and they log in, some players will act like that is their territory and will ask or tell me to leave or block spawn, or attack. This idea could possibly prevent this bad behavior if players couldn't just "camp" at a certain spot for weeks. Durability on a players gear would have to be figured/calculated in when pets attack also to prevent afk grinding or a player from not attacking so they wouldn't have to repair their gear.
I do think that the idea of adding durability to gear would rattle a lot of cages though. I'm sure Blitzcraig that you have read posts with players whining about how they will leave the game if a certain change is implemented. I believe this idea would "spawn" a few of those posts.

I do agree, that adding durability to items would definitely fix some issues in the game, as Ryaca states.
However, I would argue, IMO many, many items are very difficult to get, especially for the average player; unless, you can invest in many levels, have many hours to play, and even, a good stroke of luck, you're pretty much SOL.
We have many players here from many countries, and many of them cannot do these things. Typically, they are young, and have school. This limits their ability to purchase (not old enough for credit cards, and google play cards are not available in every country), and limits also their play time (real life obligations always get in the way lol). I could also point out the difference in various countries' economies.
So adding such a feature would not be fair to all IMO, unless, more ways are added to get basic gear. I've always thought 1/1000 chances seemed low, and at times, frustrating.
Also, as Ryaca states, there would likely be many, many complaints of such a feature. As a GM, I dread that too.
Anyway, it is a good idea overall, but, should not be implemented lightly.

oh i agree... it would have to be done carefully (I'm not losing sight of the fact that this is just a hypothetical conversation lol) - anyway, about those with less time to play; that actually works itself out... they have less time to acquire gear, but they also have less time to damage it, so they need to collect fewer pieces than a player who plays a lot

I played Parallel Kingdom (PK) for a while. PK implemented degrading durability on all armor and weapons, not to mention many tools had limited use counts (ie a shovel could only dig 100 times, then it left inventory). I constantly gathered materials to repair, which prevented exploring and other game aspects. Yes, it made the game challenging, but it was a real nuisance to try to do something and find out the tool won't last or your character dies because the weapon/armor broke at the worst possible time.
I would strongly caution adding this element to FT.
