There are one-handed crossbows. They are smaller than a normal crossbow ..
They could do less damage for example
Try to use a crossbow with one hand in real-life.
1. Don't take that comment serious, do not do that in real life.
2. This is a game Barkley, it doesn't need to match real life lol.
Sure half of the game isont realistic

I think that's good.
I do like the crossbow being one handed idea at all levels

I've played plenty of games where two-handed weapons are treated as faster and do less damage. That could be a tradeoff for one-handed weapons, but whether that would extend to other weapons would be an entirely different issue.

instead the speech makes sense. create a one-handed weapon for the archer so he can use his shield. the weapon will do less damage than the same two-handed bow at the same level.
Same for the dwarf. Create another two-handed Ax 250 (example) that does twice the damage but does not use a shield.
Just my thoughts

It's an interesting thought. It adds variety and suits different playing styles.

There are a lot of ideas to elaborate.
example
Ax 250 1 Hand
Damage 250
Dex 35
Speed 7
Radius 2
Ax 250 2 hand
Damage 500
Dex -10
Speed 8
Radius 3
Being a great weapon, dexterity goes down.
The speed also decreases.
Increase the radius.
So also for sword and ogre.
I don't know how to work for the magician.
