Having the mage in the party is something that drastically changes your chances to succeed in the game! He is so strong, able to deal such an immense quantity of damage with the green flow spell! Outstanding.
I think that I would have never been able to achieve so far with the Blue Knight!

The wizard has been underpowered a lot during time, while the blue knight is now stronger after that the programmers have included a Claymore in the shops: now that it doesn't have that terribly long dead moment due the lack of equipment, now it is a reliable resource.
Also, it got quite boring to constantly cast spells with the mage if I am still for him because I use him as a cleric, to heal and to slow down foes when it is time to retreat.
