The most current version of FT is 6.4.2

I'm unsure as to the status of the Kindle market.

I have a blackberry tablet - which is discontinued now.
It's now harassing me to update each time I log onto it - which is impossible.
The market can no longer be updated.
The version I'm stuck with on it is 6.0.16
I can't use joystick and touch screen at the same time, for one thing.
It may be possible to "sideload" it with an apk... but I'm untrusting of the sites that offer those.

My only options are - use what I have, and/or get an android.
I fear your options may be the same.
I cannot say for certain though.

It is possible, and can be done safely if done correctly. I'll pm you the details, and you can determine if you wish to do it, or even consult with admins on legality issues.
