I finally got to level 40 tonight.

I learned that playing a mage takes patience, time, and gold.

In 10 more levels, I will be able to heal and receive experience for it. I don't know why the developer chose to make a mage wait until level 50 to finally gain experience for healing others.

There is much that I don't understand about this game.

I did not know that! What type of experience?

There is much that I don't understand about this game.

You just joined the main group of the game.

From the game manual:

Heal Spell: HP increases by 50 + (2.5 * MANA) each cast.
A mage (level 50 or higher) gets +1 XP for each 1 HP healed himself and +2 XP for healing 1 HP of another player. Minimum level 5.

I've seen mages heal players as they respawn and gain levels.

You are correct but at low levels you may be surprised how many levels can be gained just by healing yourself and others.

Mainly though it's just an overall over time experience gain.

Many mages do not know about this.

I heal myself a lot while i kill monsters so i get lots of xp from myself
