I have seen this in other games; people will find ways around it, and the list of blocked words will be ever growing... also, mutes can be handed out for insults, or suggestive language, and this would not work in those instances.
Changing words to LOVE or GOLLY rather than **** is the same idea.

I'm down with that! Would add a bit of comedy to the game.

LOVE you!
Would GOLLY off!
What the LOVE!
Get the GOLLY outta here!
That LOVIN son of a GOLLY!

Yes it sounds funny, but its not practical.

A typical 4 letter word would have 16 standard variations... that does not include swapping letters for numbers, or slightly misspelling to get past the filter...

Ultimately, the list of words to change would become excessively long, and EVERY line of chat would need to be scanned for EVERY word before it is put on screen... the result would be much more lag, something we do not need IMO

Very sad our servers not so fast and powerful to support ideas like top and GOLLY LOVE...

whilst doing some research about server costs i found this.
it says that one war in an online game made the owner $300,000 - $500,000

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/20 ... eal-money/

BTW, servers are very expensive and it would be very nice to have some light shed on the cost of the server required for forgotten tales.

apparently the hardware costs for secondlife server are in excess of $1,000,000
Could Gandalf maybe shed some light on this please? My curiosity is killing me.

Also, the hardware costs are only a fraction of the costs of running a server.

Obviously, this game isnt going to need the kind of servers that secondlife has to use.

I wonder how much it would cost to run 'The Matrix'

An automatic system can always be tricked, so MadMikael's statement is the one that really counts.

Cuss and you get your 'reward', avoid cussing and you're within the social intent the game's open chat is meant to be.
