Since compbatant is the only one who can create houses, maybe the solution is as simple as he distributes a digital "key" (alphanumeric code...maybe 4-7 characters long) to the player. When they click the "For Sale" sign, it asks for the key. If no one enters the proper key within a set time (48 hours?) after reset, the key dissolves and anyone can purchase.
Distribution can take different forms: email, PM on forum, maybe adding a msg to the Information tab

That's one of the reasons I think opening up a number of houses could be a good idea. There would be a few options to choose from, and any "impulse purchases" would benefit compbatant too.

Actually it should have a [Not For Sale] sign on it, or: [SOLD]
But yes, random [For Sale] signs around the FT world when version 7 comes out sounds good.
Even in some HIGH LEVEL areas.
