I will say this: I have heard many, many players in the game and on the forum talk about how "EASY" it is to get gold or make comments like, "It's way to easy to get gold in this game". I couldn't disagree more. The drop rate for just about every monster is in the "rare" category. Any item that's worth a decent amount of gold takes quite some time to get even one to drop. It usually takes thousands of kills to aquire an item that could be sold for a good price. Fishing has been drastically changed. I know that new additions to to game are going to be focused on draining gold from the game. Devil's island already proved that. I spent almost all of my gold there. I'm closer to broke than I've been in a long time. My point is this: I already know how hard it is for me to make gold right now in the game. With future updates, I believe a great deal of gold will be needed and my concern is that my entire focus in this game is going to be gold gathering. I believe that I will not be able to focus on anything other than being a slave to make gold. I hope that all of the players that say it is EASY to make gold will share their secret with me because I am broke and making gold in this game has never been easy for me. Far from it.

I fall into the same category as Ryaca, although, at a much lower level as well.
I have, very little gold; and, my highest alt is 313... so, newer quests are pretty much completely unavailable to me.
Not that I play much anyway, but this is a deterrent in getting me to play too.
(yes, I have magic powers, that I *could* use, but I don't)
Anyway, I feel the same way. Gold really isn't that easy to acquire, unless, you have real money and sell purchased items. Then, gold can be rather easy I think. However, this fact has led to the rash of scamming going on, and that is another way players make gold.
On that note, a big shout out to DaHobbit, for his efforts on getting scammers punished. I see, he just caught another one.

Yes. That's why I get nervous when anyone suggests ways to spend more of my gold.

. I support Dahobbit in his quest to see that scammers are punished. If there is anything that I can do to help, I will.

I used to grind at Silverwood field and collect 40+ fire bows each trip, selling them at Martek's for 31k each, that's at least 1.34m gold right there. Drop rate 10%
Now I mostly grind in the blood mummy dungeon, getting 40+ earth robes a trip worth 37k each. Drop rate 25%. 1.58m per trip.
So far I have 123m gold. Most of my gear is level 70 or 80. I've been on since mid-Nov last year.
Easy money? Yes? Silly money? No. I wonder where the FT billionaires make their money.

Unfortunately when a player reaches my level, 123 million is not very much at all. Still, I wouldn't describe what you are currently doing as easy.

Red crocy are decent money, fast easy kills even as a noob and they have 3 drops. One is 140k, one is 800kish, and one is like 1m all sold to shops.
Honestly I think it's the players that camped fishing for months (if not longer) that hoarded the most gold as the 2k items sold for like 800m+ each. Admittedly I sell pets now for my gold, however I did grind and sold the crocy drops to make my first 1b gold.
Don't be hatin on my lazy gold gathering method, I give my fair share back to clans and friends <3

The bulk of the gold surplus currently in game is a result of fishing high level gear. The new quests are solving that, along with the new fishing Nerf. I believe this problem is already on its way to sorting its way out. Before we create new gold sinks, we should observe for a bit and see how the methods already in place affect gold reserves.

+1 to wait and see
But the ideas expressed in this thread can help towards any Plan B if one becomes necessary
