My suggestion is to be able to give guards gear and weapons. Giving the lvl of the barracks "say 500" wouldn't be able to give the guards 500+ gear/weapons.

Catch to it is gear is a 1/1000 chance of dropping but not weapons same concept of PvP drops.

Add healing mages to barracks to heal up other guards when they are attacked.

Your second suggestion I thought would be an update pretty soon. In the last portal they had a healing Mage that would have been perfect for the barracks
