Is it possible to change the recovery email on an account? I was given an account and i don't want them to steal it back later on...

Trading accounts is against the rules.
So is giving away an account.
Therefore if the original owner takes the account back using the password reset procedure, that is at your own risk.
In these circircumstances, stolen accounts risk permanent jail.
All this is explained in the rules.
