New crafting ideas

I'd like to see more recipes for stuff like soulstones, meteor rocks, and maybe magic trunks.
Low levels get these and can't do anything with them.
So, why not add a new crafting npc?
I'm thinking, an Alchemist - who would be an apprentice of both the Blacksmith and the Witch (so you'd need to do their quests first).
Now, he can have you go around for a multitude of quests, just collecting items/ingredients at first...
Then, he'll let you craft.
My basic idea would be, take a lot of one ingredient, and you can turn it into one ingredient of another type.
This can work for a lot of the basic ingredients that are easy enough to acquire....
The actual numbers and stuff are not my forte, so I'll leave that up to those who are good at it.
But as a basic example, take ten meteor rocks, and you can turn it into one chunk of mithril ore, for example.
For low levels looking for that mithril ingot... this could be an alternative.
I'd like it for most of the recipes to make sense... perhaps, magic trunks could be used in the recipe as a "catalyst" or "fuel"
So 5 soulstones + 1 magic trunk to make another resource of your choice.
Let's bounce around ideas and see if compbatant likes them
EDIT: just to be clear, I'm looking for crafting ideas, perhaps recipes
it can be completely different from my idea of the alchemist - as long as it's about crafting
(and finding uses for ingredients that may not have many uses)
EDIT2: perhaps we should also consider the idea of gear variations too
like there are two 150 plates - Gold and Pharaoh
This could add a little more strategy and uniqueness to the game as well
