As long as I can recall, for items 100+ you've needed a clan building to craft.
Now we have personal houses as another option.
This was something implemented back then to make clans more appealing, I think.
PvP and clans are a big part of the game.
Fairly certain, that carbon ingots are only used in items of a higher level - and therefore, not included in lower level crafting.
Although, with the state of the game now, and how much the level brackets have changed, it could possibly be considered to raise this level of crafting... level 100 is not so hard to obtain anymore...

If you can't craft anything with it, it's not really needed.

I was going to ask in a separate post, but this one seems to fit the theme: what are magic planks used for?
I don't see anything in my house crafting that needs them, so is it a clan crafting need? I made one once uing the "why not?" logic.

So far, I think they're only needed for one of the new quests.
That one was fun... why do you think there's been so much clear cutting as of late?

Well, if I ever get my miner tools ready (I'm about ready to tell a certain npc where he can stow them as I'm sick of making them) I'll stock up!
