So here's a thought.

Now that we have Kulgan the Storyteller why not have a 'slight' change in the beginning of the game.

I don't know the syntax but maybe something line this:

Code: Select all

npc_name Forester
id 3

chat_npc G'day stranger, can I help you?
chat_me You don't know me?
chat_npc Can't say that I do, try asking the grumpy old man by the campfire?
chat_me Oh, thank you, I'll do that right now.

npc_name storyteller
id 3a
as per normal....

npc_name Forester
id 3b
chat_me He didn't say anything except to talk to you
chat_me Are you sure you don't know me?
chat_npc Can't say that I do, you don't look familiar.
chat_me Now I am really confused, I was hoping you would know.
chat_me Anyway, is there a settlement or town nearby?
chat_npc Yes, Kedington is just south west of here.
chat_me Thank you for your information, and I bid farewell.
chat_npc WAIT, please, noble adventurer, I could really use your help.
chat_me What is it?
chat_npc Well, there are some pesky wolves around, getting braver each day and they're coming closer and closer to where I earn my living.
chat_npc Before long, they will be sharing me or a child for lunch. I need you to kill at least four of them, so they hide again.
chat_npc You know, some decades ago, I lost my brave son to one of this wolves...
chat_npc Can you help me?
chat_me I am very sorry for your lost and I will defeat this beasts for your safety!
chat_npc Let the light of the priestess shine on you, my friend. You will find the dirty scavengers east of my cabin. Good luck!

quest_log Kill 4 wolves and bring their fangs to the forester.
As I said .... Just a thought.

I was thinking something similar, but without all of the extra thinking that LK did! Basically, something to push (or even just suggest) beginning players towards the tutorial early on. As it is you start out and see a few npcs with :?: above them, and they don't know the significance of that early on.
