Can't heal pets

I got myself an early pet being the amazon slave girl from 2,3 because I thought it'd be convenient, which it was.
However, I noticed when I was using my heal spell, the pet wasn't affected at all.
a) Was this always a thing that I didn't notice until later?
b) Does the same go for all the other pets?
c) If yes to any of the questions above, then: any idea if it's going to stay this way?
