I would say allow customizing displays and making this part of it. Let people position the joystick, weapon, skills, mini map, chat, backpack, and trade/message alerts where they want. Maybe someone is left handed, can only use one hand, or whatever reason they want things to be different.

Then add in control transparency and let people set it like they do with sounds, effects, size, etc. Maybe allow something like 15-100% solid or so.
