Outlaw warning - I protest!

I play as a swordsman, and I am just saying whats been said so many times already. But here it is again.

Today I was attacked several times by a cowardly archer. By cowardly, I mean his tactics. He attacked, I would return attacks, and he would run. If I gave up pursuit, he would regen his hp, then begin his attack anew. If I pursued, he would run and dodge, counting on my poor reflexes. If I would corner him, he would log out, cancelling my status as defender. At this point, again if I let him be, he would regen and attack again.

So I got fed up, and I killed him. He logged out, and I was waiting. My friends helped as well. He died 3 times, twice of which I was warned for outlaw status.

I disagree with this. In this situation, I should not be the outlaw. I was just trying to grind with my friends, and this guy won't leave me alone. Really, what should I have done here?

Anyway, if I do reach outlaw status, I will just play an alt for a week. This just seems like I am being punished for something thats not entirely my fault. Yes, I killed him, but he harassed me repeatedly, and wouldn't stop. I ask again, what do I do in this situation?

I read that there were already possible solutions posted for this problem (I could not find them, I believe blitzcraig had one), and I wish very much one would be implemented.

we are on this issue, but the solutions are not so easy to use.

Thank you Gandalf. I know many players look forward to this problem being solved.

Soon enough I'm sure the outlaw system will be handled until than just stick with reliable friends i'd guess (even after it's fixed ;) my mage is one kill till outlaw from defending only...you would think people wouldn't try to kill you again if they failed the first time but that's not always the situation like with you needing to kill that guy 3 times, more than likely trying to just make you outlawed out of a losers spite, maybe perhaps the outlaw system could be changed to 10 hostile attacks (10 started fights) instead of 5 kills doing this would surely benefit defenders and show who the real outlaws are wether they get the kill or not. Outlaws would basically earn a tally for beginning the fight even if the defender finishes the fight.

but what about mischievous arrows or mischievous slow spells for a joke.
Noah I'm just kidding.
I'd GLADLY have those rules implemented.
I'd also add that only outlawed people should drop items in PvP...maybe even making outlawed peoples drop rate significantly higher.
at the moment people don't fear being outlawed. and people can lose items at a moments notice ( which is completely wrong)

If the melee player/ranged weapon issue is sorted out as I suggest (see countless other posts), then this outlaw problem will immediately be resolved. Archers 40 lvls below you (or whatever) will think twice about attacking melee players when they are having throwing axes/daggers hurled back at them.
