Mages Tower

I think that's the name of the place. I managed to get in and get the book "Age of the Priest" but it won't let me out of the tower/Island. Is there something else I need, or have I just encountered a glitch?

the door is a one - way "trap" of sorts... you must leave through the portals downstairs

So I've got out of there. I've given the librarian the book and been told to find the stranger in the cellar to give the talisman, but he's not talking to me. I have the talisman.
