Can't login over 3g

hey guys not too sure why, I've got a fast and stable 3g connection, but I'm only able to login over wifi, even if i tether from a 3g it works, but when using my 3g it loads to immediately display the earth and a tiny x any ideas as to why? i can still use youtube and other games on my 3g service.
