I don't know what it is exactly...
Maybe it depends on the device?

I've noticed, with the latest update, I can click anywhere on the map to toggle co-ordinates now... still need back button to exit though.

If it doesn't work for you, use the compass (aka windrose).

Either way, the feature of coordinates is there, and it does work... so it's nice to have.
