I've found that it happens for all the mobs with range 8. I think, behind the scenes, there's a "detect range", if you will. Mobs see us for about 30 paces, our pets only see them to 8. When they stop and shoot at 8, we either can't, or can't always, see them to shoot back. Moving seems to mitigate that. Use the corners and walls to your advantage there instead of trying to take them on in the open.

North Pole Event 2021 version, only the highlights as - we all know, my forgetter is getting better.

Time passes a few bosses come and go

Waiting for a boss someone spawned archers, one was attacking someone Blood Fairy I went over and killed it. Some "lol" comments because it took a while.

I walked back to the centre of the room, and in white chat say, "I'm set up to TANK!"

Trade button, beastmaster gave me a 'ticket', "TY for tanking"

Later I see a another trade pop up and open it.
From CLABIK and I see 50M appear with a green check
I pause...pause, then accept.
/w CLABIK "WOW" TY"
Him: "You helped me"
CLICK - the guy that was short 30M at the Church that I chased and gave 30M without saying anything. We walked back to the church together - not heard.
"That was you! I didn't remember your name, just wanted to help."

YEA! Beginning to feel good about North Pole Event like last year and it's going to be a really nice Christmas.

I had to log for RL needs... I came back just in time to see beastmage say something about someone killing his pets.

He made a public offer to buy 2 pets with a Robe 2K+2 and something else I don't remember what.
- BUT: my thought was OH MY!!!!

No takers .. I'm feeling good it's Christmas, let's do something nice.

Me: /w bm "When can you replace pets?"
bm: "2 3 days"
Me: /w bm come with me.

I'm taking a chance he will return them, I gave him my 2 spare pets.

Back in the room were back in action and 'tread' pops up

- another ticket.

I mentioned that two was the limit (if things are the same as last year).

Oh yea, I managed to get a drop of legs(500)

I cashed in the 2 tickets.
- 1x Platinum Ingot
- 1x bracelet 2K - OH YEA! MERRY CHRISTMAS NEE THAT!

So any other 'tickets' I get I give away to someone in need.
- maybe to a GM who can check to see if X didn't already cash in a few.
- regardless, they will not be cashed in by me.

I only have one other Christmas wish and I will know one way or the other come Christmas day or shortly after. But I keep that one with me.

Spent time in North Pole again today. Went in again as a TANK to help people.

No sense in doing that is there were at one time 8 Death pets in there.

Nope not fun.

So I was on my way to drop a BatWing, you hear that Batman!, when DemonMage showed up and gave me a couple of super Christmas Presents and 5 Bat Wings. So Cosair got her level and set for 4 more "Wings" for later.
