I've seen you bring these ideas up a few times now LK, so I've started checking start map with an alt I've left on 0.0 - so far I've never seen pets parked all over so that I couldn't easily spawn wolves - but I know that I'm not on as much as you are, so maybe I'm missing it.. anyway, is this a concern for something that is actually happening often, or more of a theoretical concern? (note that neither one discounts it, I'm just curious mostly lol)

I've made a few storage alts in the past few weeks, hit level 5 with some early quests, then moved them off to a certain location. I'll say that it was never impossible to spawn wolves, but there were times it was a bit frustrating as wolves would spawn and move towards a nearby pet. I knew what I was doing, so not a major issue to me, but someone new to the game could very well be frustrated. Everything depends on the timing too as there have been times where there are just a few people and no pets on the start map.

I can see it being mixed, honestly, but there are plenty of complaints on the forum about things that happen even just a single time too.

Aren't only 4 wolf fangs needed to talk to the Forrester?

↑ yes, Only 4 and even lvl(40) dogs and trolls kill them faster than a lvl(0) character can get to them.

Now add $$ pets that have the power of fairies, worms, dinos, dragons "parked" in the spawn area and what chance do they have?

NONE! This is destroying a lvl-0's chance of getting lvl 1.

Parking them in the spawn area is contrary to:
Rule 9: Reducing game-playing experience of others!
IMHO.

@ blitzcraig

Like SellSword I have created a few alts for storage and a couple of times it was a mad fight to find wolves that were "free to kill". And like SellSword I know where there are other areas as well, until someone puts pets there. One day, 6 power pets well placed, this was not coincidence. (IMHO)

I frequently walk through map 0.0 to get to my rock. And I see everything from dogs and trolls, even ice monsters (1st pet at 30), up to black dragons parked down near "the hut".

Then other players will start demanding pet corrals at their maps they are grinding.
Very good point. I agree with this and didn't consider it. Like you, I also do not want it to happen on other maps.

I guess then we'll have to rely on player goodwill to not park their pets to earn single figure xp.

Sadly: Not going to happen.

I go mute on subject.

This just doesn't seem like an issue to me.

If we start going down this road then players will start asking for this to be done on other maps where they need a quest item or any other type of drop simply because players are using their pets to level grind in that particular place and/or any other crowded area that the player is having difficulty killing mobs because other players pets are there.

I think the worry is that it is an issue for brand new players to the game. They may get disheartened and leave.

BUT

I agree with your main point. That being the case, I've (reluctantly) changed my mind on this one.

italics yellow mine

I would like to know, from someone that knows: How many wolves would need to be killed to get a level for:
  1. a level 30 player, with a Pet Shop Ice Monster that "just levelled" and he parks his pet by The Hut and he goes fishing.
  2. a level 40 player, with a Pet Shop Grey Troll and a Dog that "just levelled" and he parks his two pets near The Hut and he goes fishing.
  3. a level 136 player, with two Staff Stans that "just levelled" and he parks his two pets near The Hut and he goes fishing.
  4. a level 300 player, with two Ghost Archers that "just levelled" and he parks his two pets near The Hut and he goes fishing.
  5. a level 380 player, with two Fairies that "just levelled" and he parks his two pets near The Hut and he goes fishing.
  6. a level 820 player, with two Worms that "just levelled" and he parks his two pets near The Hut and he goes fishing.
and: What is the % chance that "each of the above, I - VI" will kill a pet, and approximately how long to kill the pet?

I am not talking about any other map now, just Map 0.0, so New Players don't get discouraged!

FT in the beginning, had no PvP, no Clans but it does now. Back then Map 0.0 and 0.-1 were not known as "No PvP" zones because there was none. I'll bet the "No PvP" zones were created to help new players get their first few levels.

I'm trying to be the voice of a player that has not started the game yet. He logs in and if he can get the wolves: 4 get's him a level.

YES, we all do eventually, but I have seen player(0)'s running around like crazy trying to get a wolf. I've tanked for them. They didn't understand what I was doing. I'd move a little closer, only to have a dog and troll chew them up. Had I been able to conjure up a couple of "balls" that would attack just the pets on Map 0.0, south of the river and north of the path, I would have! (at least I felt that way).

The ONLY reason I see for anyone to "park their pets" in that area of Map 0.0 is to harass new players.
I would find it very difficult to believe that anyone could possibly consider this "grinding to get a level".

OK, I'm done and out of here.
