There are a number of posts on the forum about pets being the responsibility of the owner, and how the owner has an obligation to keep track of their pets and their surroundings. Someone who purposefully kills pets is a jerk (or whatever one wants to call them), but it is ultimately the owner's responsibility.

Two thought about that area.

When I had just the pet Troll and War Dog, going through that area was dangerous as people mass spawning those spiders would kill me and my pets. Many times I asked to have the spawn stopped, so I could pass, only to see them call larger spawns. Some were nice and stopped the spawn to let me through.

However for someone to go in a create a spawn to kill your pets ... like SellSword said he's a jerk, but pets are your responsibility.

Just like Real Life, "you" have to look after them. Sorry you lost your pets to a jerk.

Remember:

1. the mini-map is you friend, keep an eye on it.
2. if you are NOT expecting a "message" envelop to pop up and there are strangers around while you are in a dangerous place, or just walked up to you;
- - Do NOT open it. It could be a ruse to block your screen. Wait until you are better situated.
- - if it's a friend's message, they can wait a few seconds or longer if needed.

This is pretty sound advice with or without pets. You can die in a swarm or someone could initiate PvP and catch you off guard. In general, being aware of one's surroundings and keeping tabs on others is a good idea.
