I've found the thread about special skins. It was June 2018 when their removal was confirmed. I can't see this decision being changed, to be honest.

Maybe around Christmas there will be some gifts, but the sight of demanding mobs last time that was tried might dampen their enthusiasm for that. Try to do something nice and some people ruin it for others.

Kind of like the old 1500 special skins a bit as I recall.
