Let me share a funny story. The first time I came across the word *mazdoor* (mercenary/hired hand), I looked it up in a translator to see what it meant. When the translator provided the definition, I was completely shocked! I quickly looked up from my phone, terrified that my parents might be nearby and see the definition—which would have gotten me into serious trouble—and I deleted it immediately.
In our family, even the slightest offensive word was punished by having one’s tongue burned with chili. We never used offensive language; we were raised to be extremely, exceptionally polite. But there was one problem: whenever we went out and heard foul language, we would burst out laughing.
For instance, once someone said something insulting to me, and I just laughed. He looked at me, bewildered, and asked, "What are you laughing at?" I laughed again and walked away. He didn't understand me; he stood there in astonishment, his mind filled with questions. Meanwhile, I found myself wondering what my father would have done to him had he been there.
These contradictions are very problematic. Children shouldn't be raised to be *too* polite; otherwise, they won't know how to behave in society. I remember secretly listening to rap songs that contained offensive lyrics—I would laugh so hard my stomach hurt. I found it amusing and funny.
It is truly wrong that words which others say with ease result in punishment for us; I don’t like it.😊😄

My opinion since this is a public post....a funny story! Here is a thought.

There are many words in language that can be used to insult, suggest, refute etc. Anyone can swear and use such words. It isn't the peak of intelligence but the low hanging fruit. What is more impressive is being able to get your point across without swearing. Such a person is clever and reaches high on the tree for the best fruit. I am always suspicious of what common culture thinks is acceptable when in previous generations it wasn't acceptable. It isn't progress but a digress into simplistic minds who no longer think for themselves.

I tend to agree with you Gull although can't honestly say I am perfect in that regard! I try my best, mate.

Meri- thank you for sharing a part of your earlier years. You're absolutely right - no-one is perfect.

Yes my dear Meri...I do not speak to condemn but only to offer a better way.

There is an old saying "In an old father you must forgive much" which means older adults tend to speak their mind too quickly and ask humbly if they offend please forgive! So if I have spoken improperly please forgive me!

I too cannot say I never sware. There was a blind man who worked in a radiology department working in the darkened room to develop X-rays. The techs gave him a hard time. Instead of swearing he would say something he didn't like "potato chips and biscuits!". I wouldn't say that! But there are times we all face with frustration and say something in response. There is a difference if it is directed at a person not a circumstance. But there I go again. I speak to our mutual benefit as we seek to be peaceful in a turbulent world. Save our ire for what is important!

Peace and love!

thanks leon and gol yes true ♥️🌷🌸
My father believes that those who use insults are cowardly and weak. My grandfather says that people who are born and live in the wrong places—for instance, near a trash bin or in unsanitary environments—resort to insults; he has a strong aversion to such behavior.
I believe that if we are raised to be overly polite and well-mannered, we may struggle to navigate social interactions effectively. I honestly don’t know how to handle people who are insulting; I simply walk away, but they end up thinking I’m a coward.😄😊🎀
