Time out disconnect

Post by MadMikael »

I was playing with a friend tonight, who was so tired he fell asleep while playing haha. Even funnier is thats not the first time hes done it lol.

Being a good friend, I did my best to stick around and protect him, not wanting him to lose experience from death. I am glad no other players figured it out as he would have been an easy pvp target, and could have lost something else.

Unfortunately for me, it took about an hour and twenty minutes before he suffered a disconnect.

So what I suggest is that if a player is idle for an extended period of time (I guess 5 or 10 minutes), they should be automatically logged out.

Other reasons this may be applicable are say a real life incident where the player doesn't have time to log out, or perhaps some kind of logging error where the game thinks they are still logged on (it happens I think).

Players spend lots of time (and perhaps money) on this game, and shouldn't lose out from something preventable.

Actually I was hoping for this to happen. I am grateful for nice mods that do this ;). But mods cannot be everywhere, and sometimes real life events can interrupt things. And in some instances they are good reasons (but not my example).

Also as FT grows, its user base will grow. I imagine that more players online take up system resources, and this idea could help keep things running smoother, improving the experience for all.

I am behind this idea 200% this will stop unfair advantages from afkers at high levels (seen an afk person at red cyclops for like 3 hours straight without typing a word) so my guess was afk training, plus as FT grows chances are with more people will mean more reasons in the FT world for people to go afk especially when the unexpected happens irl I'm sure it's happened to us all. Being a big mmo fan I realize other games also do this timeout method to keep servers clean and full of 'playing" characters only. :-) supported

Perhaps if this were implemented to include a player who does not physically move for some time, it could affect those who try to cheat with auto clickers. If they are actually on, they can simply log back in.

Yes I agree. I have fallen asleep grinding once and I was lucky enough when I woke up I was still alive. I gained like 3 lvls if you wanna take em away for being afk I really don't care I didn't mean to fall asleep lol. It was like a week ago I think idk exactly when.

I used to play a game that really tried hard to fight this issue. Not really the afk aspect, but botting which atm can be considered the same thing. Using a program to play for you like auto clickers and such and stay in game to grind xp/gp, or using the pets do to all of the work as you sleep.

Random events was the first big step towards fighting the bots, you randomly get teleported to an area to complete a set of tasks before you can be teleported back to where you were.

Basically it'd be like sending the player to a jail cell where they'd have to complete some sort of task to unlock themselves. Most can be solved in a minute if that, and upon release you'd get a little compensation. One random event in particular gave rewards based on how fast you completed the task (this one was a maze).

Add a timer once the player is randomly sent to complete the task, depending on the task they have that timer start counting down. Depending on how quickly they solve the task they'd get rewarded. After a certain time though no reward will be given.

Players must complete the task to get out no matter what. They will stay there even if they log out and then back in.

Also support a 5-30 minute timer where if they don't move they are automatically logged out. The game Im referring to started it's afk timer at 30 seconds. Had to deal with that for YEARS. But it counted talking as being active though.

BTW, thank you for reviving this thread, I still think it an important topic.
Also, I really like your additional ideas on the subject.
