I always got told that admins just supervise/watch the game and dont interact in it.
Is that true ?

unless I'm misunderstanding your thought here, the answer is "no, that's not true. " for example, if I'm on, and see somebody using inappropriate language, I may mute the player (thus interacting) - - another example would be playing an alt... I have to play some to stay connected with game and understand what's going on... obviously my alt has nothing to do with clans, and as little as possible with pvp, but will sometimes grind with other players and talk, or run through new quests ... does this answer your question?
