Re: A way to probably stop afk people
Playing on two devices and not paying attention to one of them is still playing afk.

By that logic you go afk every time you open inventory, pm, clan, shop, etc. You're not paying attention to what's happening on game map.
Loophole, I'm never afk just in a pm.
I spawn and chat on both, just not simultaneously instantly. If I were to have to do that to prove my not being afk within a few seconds (which I usually do anyway to the people that know me) then all of the above is also against the rules
This is the point I'm trying to make.

Just as long as you are not letting your pets do all of the killing on your other device while your character just stands there not actively participating in the killing of monsters. That would constitute afk grinding.
And I believe that if anyone has to go to the bathroom or leave for any reason even if only for 1 minute, then they should log out. I stare blankly at my screen for hours. I believe it is doable.

Yeah, I feel some of the ideas on this board have some merit and some are a little impractical. We all know, or should know by now what constitutes practical abuse and what doesn't.
If you get caught going for a drink or running cause your wife or kids need ya and ya forget to log, then a GM happens to pop by and gets no answer from ya, then throws your a$$ in jail all in the span of 5 minutes...that's a little harsh for me.
Allowing hours of player inactivity on the other hand while your pets are leveling is at the other extreme.
However, players use pets to level AND pets do the majority of the leveling, no one should kid themselves about this. Even when a character gets involved in the action they simple are going through the motions for the most part besides the mage and dwarven classes.
I've played them all and a character outside of the 2 mentioned above put on a good show but are doing very little when 2 pets are used with the right spawn and monsters balanced properly against the characters level.
Of course there are exceptions, a character using his % ability to knock a whack of hp off but that usually happens by a low life..opps low level character cherry picking a higher level spawn
I personally like the timer idea...it's been implemented in other games with success but I find usually other players are the best deterrent.
Lastly, unless another character is being deprived of his her right to work an area because of someone using it in an abusive fashion, they can speak to the player and if they don't respond, they can call a GM or get an easy kill for themselves
.
Silenced players use there $ as a way to nullify this but there spawn can be interfered with or increased and if they truly are AFK, they get very little XP from the session or they are overwhelmed and they and their pets are killed.
Well that's all I got to say cause my fingers are sore and my throat is dry

Re: A way to probably stop afk people
That's so easily exploitable though lol. Btw if required I can provide a picture in pm if anyone thinks I'm breaking any rules with 2 device to prove my innocence of any rule breaking
I want to make it clear I'm not against a log out timer, just want a reasonable duration
I tank for my pets, intentionally not attacking (even have weapon off to not attack them when they're coming in) so I can regen and tank longer without having to stop and rest. After I spawn 8 my pets come in and kill them all, rinse repeat. If this is against the AFK rules, then you'd have to punish every single player that has ever tanked or had someone tank for them.
The exploitation is it can take up to a few minutes to kill a batch and heal up to full after you've tanked for a little while and are low on health. Who's to say you aren't spying on clan members to see how people are leveling or answering a few pm's whilst your batch is finishing and then health recovering?
If you abide completely to the letter of the AFK rules, any time you click on anything in game that doesn't allow you to see your avatar fighting in game you are AFK because you can't directly answer a GM when they call to you.
You cannot prove someone wasn't doing anything game related that takes their eyes of their avatar and someone taking 1-2 minutes to get a drink or go to the bathroom and that is my point. You can't prove anything for short intervals.
There has to be a line drawn somewhere. I personally feel anything under 5 minutes can never be proven without a reasonable doubt and that is what all convictions require. There is a tremendous difference between someone going afk to take a leak or watching tv AS they grind than someone setting an auto up for hours and are away the entire time. If you can't see the difference then we are never going to end this and I'll just agree to disagree on the duration.

I'll agree to disagree on this one. There were several points made in the two posts before this one that I would completely 100% disagree with and even laughed at, however I will let this one rest.

Great debate this. My opinion is that although the GM team is growing, the individual GMs cannot possibly be everywhere to enforce whichever AFK rule exists.
With this in mind, I'm inclined to favour the idea that a player is automatically kicked out of the game after X minutes of inactivity. It'll reduce GM workload, be a no-nonsense and non-negotiable approach, be aimed at all players equally and us players will soon adjust to it (particularly if we are caught out!).
Five minutes seems fair to me, for reasons discussed by others. However, I'd even say three minutes should be enough time to, for example, check your backpack. Anyway, the amount of time is perhaps less important than the approach itself.

Re: A way to probably stop afk people
sorry to change the subject, but did i understand correctly here.... if you stand idle while being attacked, are you gaining hp again? this was fixed years ago, and would be a huge deal if it was back :/
EDIT - maybe I'm simply misunderstanding, because I cannot reproduce it that way (which is good)
