Private houses

So to buy a private house all I need to do is take a screenshot of the in game object I want as my house, and a GM will make it for sale at a given time? Or is there some other process?

Not exactly.
GMs are not involved in private houses purchase.
You have to take a screenshot of yourself close to the chosen element, with the results of /pos command visible in the screenshot.
Post the screenshot here or send it to compbatant via forum PM, possibly also describing the element.
He is the only one who can set the element for sale.

Besides that, some items are NOT available - These include places used in quests, dungeon entrances, etc.
