I used the word "alluring" in a metaphorical sense, of course, aiming to recall the fact that too often human female is in games (and videogames in particular) more a reward than a playing subject.

It is true that we have a few female skins, but on a female point of view they are not satisfying.
If you want to use a sword, you have to go around in your bathing suit - which is mortifying and quite stupid: going around in bikini in a land full of monsters and hostile people?!?!
If you want to use a bow, u have to be pink.
If you want to use an axe, you can be a nice freya - bearing with her tacky t-shirt and the fact she roams in said dangerous land with naked belly.
If you want to be magic, a cute faery or nothing.
If you feel ogre, you have ogres, which I believe are alien to human genders :-)

To give you an idea of how a girl could feel in this situation, I invite you to look the web for the interesting work of the photographer ashyda, using these research words: "If the men in fighting games were dressed like the women" - have a laugh, then think of it!

Gender issues in games are one of my main topics of interest, as well as a long debated one in Game Studies, and I was curious to see how it is seen and felt by other players - of each gender - in this game community, with regards of skins.
I really like FT, and please be sure that I am not moving a critique but only aiming to reflect on how to bring it to be even better. I agree that this is not the more urgent issue in FT developing, nevertheless I think we can talk and think about it :-)
I agree!!!!!!!

ALL female characters in this FANTASY game should wear burkas.....

Why is there still such a low selection of female skins?
So just because its pink or purple it's female? Lol
Is that what games have come to? :|
This topic makes me extremely angry.
Every class (except ogre really) has nearly all MALE skins -_- (Maybe even all)

I agree. Most other games ask for one's chosen gender rather than assign gender by class. And the avatars are recognisably gendered, and class is clear also.

We need designers to come up with different skins (not just re-coloured ones), e.g. witch for female mage, sprite for male fairy, etc. I'm rubbish at drawing (I flunked art 101) but I'm sure we have dozens of brilliant people in the FT community :D

Ok, joking aside, this is a very valid complaint.
We do need more female skins.
However, it's gotten to the point where compbatant doesn't want to add too many more, as it would increase the game size.
Hence the current system of color matrix changes. No real size difference.
So, for one to get added, it would have to be really good, not to mention, unique.
That's the first issue. The next is more the big one.
The reason we have no new female skins added is, no one has designed any!
It's not an easy task, by far. You can't just submit a single picture, and say, please add this skin.
A skin is many, many pictures in itself.

Let's use the Amazon skin as an example.
There are 8 attack directions, and each consists of 9 images. That's 72.
There are 8 death directions, again consisting of 9 images. Another 72.
There are 8 walk directions, again 9 images, again another 72.

So, for a "simple" sword skin, you're looking at 216 images that need to be made.
For something more involved, like a mage, you need spell casting animations. More images.
Also, some skins have more or less animation to them.

Anyway, if you can design these images, and make the animation look good, I'm sure compbatant will consider it.
I would do this myself, but my artistic talent is far below novice. So it's a no from me. That's a lot of work, and it would take me at least 10x longer than a talented person.

Woooow!
I'm so glad this post had been revived :D

I wonder if the animation images are drawings or renderings of 3D models. In such a case, given the models used to render current skins images, making new ones wouldn't be so hard as drawing them all

I feel very strongly about equality
I wonder how many people we can get to notice this one issue in particular?
We shall see :)
