Better Health/Mana Pots in Shop

Post by 013Sephiroth »

Currently the best purchasable Health Pot is +1000 Health and the Best Mana is +40 Mana, after a certain point they begin to feel useless. A melee character with 20k Health would literally need pots to heal from low health, that's alot of inventory space just to heal one time. Same goes for a Mage with Mana Pots. A Mage with only 400 Mana (not really alot) needs 10 to heal its Mana from 0. Might I suggest adding Health/Mana Pots to Shops that Restore a Percentage, this would certainly help higher lvl characters (above 50-100) out alot.

Maybe a Potion to Heal for 20% Max HP and another to Heal 20% Max Mana for 25k each (up to creator), available in shops.

Interesting idea. A % heal or mana potion rather than set amount. I like the sound of this.

It would make Health and Mana Pots an option to sufficiently heal by all players instead of primarily to lower lvl players.

I previously suggested something similar, but the topic eventually just died out. I'm still in favor of % based potions!

Check out the post Humble_M linked to - important arguments there...

Basically, there's pros and cons to this sort of idea....

I can tell you, that the potion thing definitely has a huge effect on the PvP that happens within their level range.
For this reason, there seems to be a lot more "griefers" at that level range - players who go out of their way to attack others, and kill them etc.
Not that this is entirely against the rules... but it does make the game daunting for players when they're new and are in that range.

If you add more potions... would it not just increase this range?
Or do you think it would lessen the griefing at the current levels? I don't think so....

Either way, it would cause PvP at higher levels to become even longer - something I hear complaints about too, from the higher levelled players. PvP matches that would take say... 5 minutes... now add two pets to both sides, and fill all packs with pots... now your same PvP match is 20 minutes... and it will fall into the same category as the current system - the victor will be the one who has the most items, or if even, the result will be no different.

Now, maybe this is exactly what you want - longer PvP, and perhaps, a less predictable outcome as you don't know who has what pots... but I don't think everyone wants this sort of thing.

At one time, when I played regularly, yes, I wanted this too.... but now, I don't think I do (I mean, if I were playing at those levels). It would just drag out the game more.

Honestly though, I'd support this idea completely if pets did not exist (at least, if they did not increase backpack space)... but, no, I can't support this idea within the current mechanics.

I see, however in my post I wasn't taking into consideration PVP, personally I don't care for PVP, however, would it be possible to make it to where these %Heal Pots only work when you aren't targeting or being targeted by another player? I was only looking at it from a farming perspective.

As I've discovered after several other "suggestions", this game is very much controlled by PvP! I'm not a fan of PvP, and do my best to avoid it, but ultimately most suggestions turn into "how can this help or hinder PvP" play.

I've not been a fan of PvP myself either....
Look at my oldest posts from before I was a GM. You'll see it.

But the hard thing I had to accept back then - and that I repeat now- is that PvP is a part of this game.
A large part. In fact, some would say the main part.

Back then, I (among others) argued time and again about making options for those who prefer PvM...
Making PvP optional, among other things....
Every time, the decision was the opposite of what I (and my friends) wanted.

It's not going to change. PvP is here to stay.
Either accept that, and play with it, or move on.
It's not going anywhere.
