Trading system - concept

Post by MadMagus »

The current trading system between players is lacking.
The most common complaints:
1. "Spam Selling" - popular with low level accounts, they try to sell something useless to accounts with gold, for ridiculous prices (like a fish for 1000m)
This is also abused in pvp at times. The issue is that the sell offer pops up on your screen, actually ceasing your gameplay (in the continued interaction sense). For those seeking gold, they're trying to get you to buy... for pvp, they don't care, they are just trying to make you die.
2. Multiple items - transferring of multiple items at once, as mass transfers are quite annoying
3. Direct trading - item for item: as is, you can only trade an item for gold, which is limited by
4. Max Trade value - currently 2.147b, which is too low for some items

I envision it like this:
You send a "trade with me" request to a player- similar to a "join clan" request, it pops up as a message, and they accept or reject.
If accepted, the two players enter "trade mode", if they fulfill certain conditions.
1. They have to be close to each other (idk, within 5 or 10 spaces?)
2. When trading, perhaps a simple graphic could represent this; the simplest idea would be some sort of line drawn between the two players; perhaps, such a line should only be visible to the two involved.
3. When in "trade mode", the trade window can be open or closed (like the pack), without cancelling the trade (the graphic represents this). This is so, you can stop and fight a mob or chat or whatever during a trade, if necessary.
4. the trade window could consist of four panels: your inventory, your offers, their offers, their inventory. The "offers" are the "tables" where you place your gear etc... both players can put items/gold on the table, and the trade is completed if both hit accept. If you make an offer, then hit accept, the other player can accept, reject, or counter-offer (change the offer)... if they change the offer, your accept button is automatically deselected, and you get the option of accepting/rejecting/modifying. If the window is able to be open/closed, a chat window is not needed (but would be appreciated as it could offer a private chat that has no one else in it; thus you don't miss convo if others are present and chatting).
5. Considerations for disconnects, cancellations, etc. at simultaneous times is needed. Also, a quick disconnect may be considered as a possibility, and perhaps a trade can continue if the player logs back on right away.
6. When the trade is completed, perhaps, it does not end trade mode. This way, you can continue trading with the same player multiple times.
7. Items do not stack in the inventory; but, they could/should stack on the tables, and you should be able to move them in quantities (I have a pack full of stone for you, that's 80... I'd much rather add it to the table once and enter the #80 rather than transfer 80 times...)
8. Your gold should always be visible.
9. Trade value should be increased, AND the numbers should be formatted on screen.. i.e. it should be spaced or separated with commas (700,000,000), or abbreviations used (700m). The only issue here is, when rounding does occur, sometimes the number isn't exact... not a big deal though.

If I think of anything else, I can add as a reply.
You called me strong, you called me weak
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted all the times I
Never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head, if
Not for me then you'd be dead
I picked you up and put you back
On solid ground

8. Your gold should always be visible.
If you mean the 2m gold I put on the table for this transaction: I agree!

If you mean he gets to see the "68b" I'm holding: I disagree strongly

The idea: Perfect!!

I feel the same way, but a +1 to the general idea ;)

Alright, whether or not your trade partner can see your gold is debatable.. even your inventory...
Perhaps, that's an angle that needs some looking at.
What I originally meant was, you can see YOUR OWN gold at all times...
It would be silly if that one was missing from the trade window...

As for showing your inventory/gold.. perhaps, that could be a trade condition.
When you go to initiate a trade, you can choose "open trade", "hidden inventory", "hidden gold", or "hidden both"..
So, if you don't need to show your stuff, you don't have to... (many trades are agreed upon before hand).

The reason why you should have the option to show - language barriers.
If you can see offers, and make counter offers with your items, their items, and both gold piles, you can easily barter with someone without even saying a word - which is great if you don't speak the same language.

RE-EDITED:

That's a Great idea, if I deal with Dave_m for example he sees everything in Spanish I see it in English.

hide/unhide ...GREAT but the gold I'm carrying: NEVER! only what I put on the table

For me the people involved should only see what has been put on the table, that includes gold

Over all an excellent idea.

Yes, the trade system (or lack thereof) is abysmal... one of the "big three" issues that is an absolute necessity to make this a "real game" instead of still a beta test :/

It will make the negotiation much more practical. and the spawn will end ..

1. I have something that might increase that I think it improves a little ..

When the person wants to negotiate and wants a more practical means of sending the request could have a new /
(/ Trade SSweetzor) <example would be a practical way too
