I will edit this into my original post as well, but I believe some content of the sort mentioned in my post here might help with your suggestion Mad:

Re: New idea for jail
I definitely like this idea
That way a player jailed for one week would have to physically log In to the game for enough hours to actually equal 1 week before they are released
That way if they are not diligent they could actually end up serving longer than a week in jail
I don't mind the mining/crafting as long as they cannot build their trade skills and the items mined or crafted have to go towards someone other than themselves and not someone of their choosing
Furthermore since these players only make the game worse for everyone else since they are lowlifes they should have an additional one week of parole upon their release as outlaw that also must be logged time of one week to make outlaw status go away
I would also like to see the lowlife scum that share accounts jailed in this way

At the end off the day, what is required is reeducation, not punishment. People play FT to escape RL for a while.
The sort of changes you propose would put players off the game. Nobody is going to spend several weeks playing a jailed character to get it released from a 3 day sentence.

Re: New idea for jail
If a player gets jailed they just play an alt
No punishment there
Remember
It's not like the whole community goes to jail
Just a small percentage
If those people leave the game good riddance

WELL SAID...a jailed character working on a chain gang is ridiculous!Arashiko wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 4:50 am At the end off the day, what is required is reeducation, not punishment. People play FT to escape RL for a while.

I'd much rather an automated quiz on the rules or something; however that is unlikely.
I do see potential in the original idea, but it would seriously need to be scaled down - jailing would no longer be weeks; a simple hour would work in most cases.
Make it something obtainable, but not overly done.
I think the point trying to be made is that jailing doesn't seem to be a deterrent for some.
Yes, on certain offences, we will get their "main", and that can work, but it doesn't work for all.
A negative gameplay experience - as suggested, like manual labour - could push people away, but it could be effective too.
Balance is key - and as I said, the times would need to be shortened quite a bit.
If ever this idea were seriously considered, there are also considerations to take that I cannot mention publicly.
Cheaters will cheat, y'know.

Re: New idea for jail
I guess i just have an extreme way of thinking
I only have this one character
I have no alts
So if i were jailed and it were this way the experience would suck so bad that i wouldn't be so quick to break the rules again
And no one ever leaves ft
Many threaten to leave when they cry and don't get their way but they always get over it
Harsher sentences and harsher punishments is what i say
I wish that the people that threaten to leave the game would actually leave the game and stop crying

Re: New idea for jail
Certainly timeframes would have to be considerably scaled down, but if the efforts put forth can be applied to the greater good of the game I think it will defer people from leaving. A child gets in trouble in school and is sent home for 3 days is basically on vacation, however, a child forced to stay in school and attend to work by himself for even a day while being separated from the peers he showed off for is far less likely to repeat the behaviors.
