Purchased Level Caps

Post by Humble_M »

Let me state for the record: If someone wants to take the easy path and buy levels rather than spending time to actually earn them, that's their business. Me, I'm proud to say that I've spent hours and hours (...and hours) to get my player where it is.

That being said, I think there should be a cap on purchasing levels. Not on the NUMBER of levels, but the FREQUENCY. And, it should get tied to the player's current level. This is what I had in mind:

Levels 1 - 199
No cap on number of levels, but must wait 5 days (from purchase date) before system will permit next purchase
so, if a player purchases enough levels to hit the next cap, they need to wait 5 days (because it's a 5 day wait from CURRENT level)

Levels 200 - 499
No cap on number of levels, but must wait 15 days (from purchase date) before system will permit next purchase
so, if a player purchases enough levels to hit the next cap, they need to wait 15 days (because it's a 15 day wait from CURRENT level)

Levels 500+
No cap on number of levels, but must wait 30 (from purchase date) days before system will permit next purchase

So, in effect, the higher your level, the less often you can purchase levels.

Now, I realize this suggestion also hinders some "aspects" of PvP play. However, anyone caught using level purchase to avoid negative PvP outcomes should be jailed. It may not exactly be against the rules, but it's in poor form.

I could see the value behind what you are asking, but look at it from a developers aspect as well. Limiting purchases also means to limit the developers revenue. Now, I do not know if compbatant uses these games as his sole revenue, but some game developers do. The in game purchases pay their bills as well as for the time it takes to implement content updates. Asking a developer to set aside their pocket book would be the same as asking a average working class person to take half wages because they are now being required community service hours to be employed. The half wages constitute their community service in essence.

I do not necessarily agree with purchasing your way to level 5k+ as I would not even purchase 1 level myself. However, if a player has the money to spend and it provides the developer the revenue source to continue implementing updates and content for the game than I am all for it myself.

I can see the value behind a level cap system of sorts though. Making a game pay to win I think in the end is the means for the damnation of a game. Do you think maybe there is another way to control the process of level purchases to minimize the impact in PvP? Maybe instead of making it so a player can not purchase again for so long, maybe putting a limitation on time before eligibility to participate in PvP? That way a player can not lose a fight, go buy 200 levels, then come back and destroy you 5 minutes later....

Just food for thought on the topic is all.

Just some of my ideas on this topic.

I do like the idea of removing some of the pay-to-win aspect from the game however as pre mentioned above by @ Tarlin, I don't believe putting on a limit on the amount of purchases is the best option. Yes, it would slow down a pay-to-win players progress by introducing a time, but may i ask, What are you trying to achieve by putting on a time on the amount of level they can purchase? The cons out weight the pros. Iit may attract more players by limiting the pay-to-win features, but at the end of the day there is nothing as a gratis game, developers need to make a living for their hard work. As long as the game doesn't involve into the type of games that has ads popping up after every click then i'm a happy man.

I do however have one suggestion which may extricate the complaints about the purchasing level system is the price of levels is dependant on the player's amount of purchases and increase the price after every few purchase? For example,

The 1-5 purchase for levels
Cost the normal price.

The 6-10 purchase for levels
Cost the normal price + $5

And so on..

Another way of going about could be the prices of levels are solely dependant upon the character's level, thus, the prices of levels would gradually increase as the players progresses. For example,

Level 1-50 would cost $9

Level 51-100 would cost $13

And so on..

This second method may make the system slightly fairer on the different characters purchasing the same amount of levels, as I, have purchased levels when I had first began the game, before i knew that buying levels to get from 10-20 wasn't exactly the smartest idea.

(I know there would be several problems via the second method, but this is just an basic idea which definitely needs improving on)

(The prices of the methods were just a example, please ignore them)

Buying levels kept this game alive...
I don't think there will be a change on it.

Deal with it.

I had to laugh, I mean really laugh....

The post basically read as Ryaca saying, "This is absolute trash! Why would you even consider this as an option!?" Followed at the end by "Excellent post, keep em coming.... So I can smash them down again!"

(Take into consideration I am only making fun of the way my own mind works. I laughed like crazy about this thought. I do not speak for Ryaca nor do I think that the last part is his intention.)
