2nd slot for main weapon switch

Post by MadMikael »

A button added, that allows you to switch your main weapon on the go.
This button could also be disabled (or set to 1 weapon only), so it does not affect those who do not wish to use it.

For melee, they may be able to switch between a range 1 weapon that does more damage, to a range 2 weapon quickly (I'm thinking, 250 sword vs. 175 sword is a good example)

For mage, they could swap between their staff, and no staff (which allows for short range healing); they could also switch between staffs of varying ranges perhaps.

For archer, I'm uncertain if any weapons are available at this time that would fit this criteria to be useful.

If this mechanic were implemented, it could allow for more variation in weapons to come, where you may decide to switch depending on the situation at hand. The prominent idea in my mind is, longer range with less damage vs. shorter range with more damage.

Just an idea... may never happen, but never know unless you post it ;)

Archer could switch between 2 handed bow / 1 handed crossbow + shield maybe ;)

ah, that's slightly more complicated than my original idea, but a very good point!
if the idea included both hands, not just one, this could open a lot more opportunities
more two handed weapon options, etc., and a quick swap to one handed + offhand (perhaps, mages could get something here too, eventually)

For archer you could do something like introduce dagger-type weapons, as allowing two different classes to use the same weapons (i.e., swords for archers or the like) might not go over well. Possibly a level cap on an alternate weapon? As far as the damage over distance issue goes, I'm sure that anyone who plays archer would balk at any damage reduction.

You could always introduce some sort of elemental system so the difference between a "fire sword" and "ice sword" is obvious, but there would need to be a substantial reworking of the game for such a thing.

I like the general idea.

but why limit it to only the weapon?
one thing seen in many old rpgs is a button to switch quickly between complete sets of armor+weapon.

I don't have any issue with the concept, and I've probably played a few games like this as well, but you'd likely have to devote inventory slots to alternate gear. Otherwise you could potentially be carrying around eight more items. It's not really a "bug" or something that a limited number of people could exploit though if everyone could do it.

yeah i would agree that it had to come from inventory to be fair.

ah, on that line of thinking
"locking" items that are important would be a nice addition
the "locked" items would go in the top of your pack, NOT the bottom (aka pet storage)
you could do this with weapons, gear, and quest items
this way, if your pet dies, you're not scrambling to drop items to pick up your valuables
and it would fit right in if your two sets of weapons and/or gear were at the top of your pack

maybe have it that when you click on any item, you get option to Create Set. click on that, then you see your inventory and can pick which items to include in the set. when you close the window, a new single set icon displays, while all the set pieces disappear. this would allow a user to carry multiple sets, but not designate a slot for every piece.

to change or remove set items, just click the set icon, then deselect items. these items then return to storage slots when the window closes

Perhaps also a basic "lock" option for items, as well? You already get the equip and drop buttons. If a Lock button was added, like MadMikael said, items would go to top of inventory, and also could not be sold (quests would still consume, or the quest wouldn't resolve, to prevent abuse).

I like it.
